Appointments can be made for your Irish Setter, at the salon where we will ‘properly’ bath and condition the coat and trim him for you. For a pet dog an appointment every 8 to 12 weeks will keep your dog looking smart and comfortable.

If you require regular ‘show’ grooming and trimming we would need to see your Irish Setter every 4 to 6 weeks this will ensure the show condition is maintained, or if you are able to maintain the coat yourself and would like a professional treatment once in a while or for a special show, we can also oblige.

Please note that appointments at the salon are usually running 6-9 weeks ahead, we recommend booking early especially if you require a specific date, or for a special show like Crufts when the show appointments get taken very quickly.

Occasionally we offer ‘Training Days’ where you can bring your own Irish Setter and learn how to prepare, bath and trim for the Show Ring, look out for details of future courses or email to register your interest.

If you would like further advice on trimming your Irish Setter for the show ring, an article can be downloaded here, please note the request for donations to rescue.

Dee’s Recommended Plush Puppy Products
for Show and Maintenance Baths
Irish Setter Maintenance

Shampoo feathering especially areas soiled with urine, every 4-6 days. Use Henna or body building shampoo followed by Rescue Conditioner. While conditioner is on coat remove tangles with fingers and a pin brush.
Squeeze excess water from coat using a towel (do not rub long hair) Lightly spray with Sea Breeze Oil and brush through with the pin brush working from the ends towards the body. Dry the coat naturally or with a hair dryer, then lightly spray vulnerable areas again with Sea Breeze Oil and brush through with pin brush. Do not brush the coat again until next bath. If tangles start to appear, carefully pull apart with fingers.

Show Bath

Dilute Henna shampoo between 5 and 10 to 1, depending on level of dirt in the coat. Shampoo all over,  rinse and repeat with Henna Shampoo to head and body area, rinse, Shampoo all feathering with Body Building and lightly rinse to loosen shampoo. .Apply Rescue conditioner to body work in well, leave at least a couple of minuets  rinse out and through the feathering. (loosen any tangles with a pin brush at this stage, applying rescue directly to any knots if needed) Dilute Silk Conditioner with warm water and pour over the body, work through to ends of feathering, brush through and Rinse Well.Towel dry, apply chosen product, ( Swishy, Blow Dry or Volumising) Blow Dry. IMPORTANT. Every 4-5 full baths use Deep Cleansing Shampoo instead of 1st shampoo, to clarify the coat and remove any dirt & build up of products. Continuously campaigned dogs at the height of the show season, may only need a ‘freshen up, once over’ in which case the AZ-IZ shampoo is ideal.

At The Show

Wonderwash self rinsing shampoo, to remove any urine, or effects of car sickness (spray a little onto soiled area, blot with a towel and careful pin brush through) Reviva Coat diluted in a spray bottle to aid brushing and reduce static.Shine n Comb to add extra gloss. OMG fantastic all round grooming spray.
.
Protein Coat balm, gently applied by hand will stop flyaway hair and help boost shine, like Reviva coat good for extra condition and protection to weak hair, in the maintenance regime.

Shampoo and conditioner dilutes 3 -10 to 1. All products can be diluted and used in conjunction with one another.
This regime is designed for a coat in good show condition. For out of condition  problems, please ask for advice .

WHAT DOES IT DO ON AN IRISH SETTER?

Rescue conditioner
Extra conditioning for show baths.  Intensive conditioning for ‘out of coat’ situations, damaged hair, extra dry coat & skin,

SEA BREEZE OIL
Top quality oil for protecting coat between shows.  On very dehydrated coats use all over, shampoo out every 4-6 days.  DO NOT USE ON SHOW DAYS.

BLOW DRY CREME
Use neat or diluted, use alone or with Swishy Coat. Helps relax curls & waves, useful for around the neck & shoulders & top of tail. I prefer not to use neat on feathering.

VOLUMISING CRÈME
Coats each hair to boost out of coat conditions.  Apply to hands and run through the roots, brush through into feathering.  Can be diluted and sprayed into coat.
On thin body hair, blow dry against lay of coat.

SWISHY COAT
Use neat or diluted, can be mixed with blow dry crème.
Straightens coat and keeps it in place. I prefer to use only on feathering from the roots down. Will make  the coat  do,  what you want it to !

PROTEIN COAT BALM
A tiny bit go’s a long way! Has UV filter to protect against sun.  apply to hands and gently run over top coat, brush through to stop fly-away hair before showing. Gives extra  protection between baths & shows

REVIVA COAT
Fantastic Non greasy all round product can be diluted into grooming spray stops static. Use neat to aid brushing & reduce breakage, gives extra conditioning at and between shows.

WONDERWASH
No rinse instant shampoo. Must have for removing urine & sticky bits from male dogs at shows before grooming out. Excellent for all dirty emergencies including cleaning saliva soaked car sick dogs & for cleaning older incontinent dogs & puppy accidents .

SHINE & COMB
Finishing spray adds extra shine aids brushing, reduces static and hair breakage, use sparingly.
